JOHN VANDERZICHT POOL EXPANSION FEASIBILITY STUDY AND COST ANALYSIS

NORTH WHIDBEY PARKS AND RECREATION DISTRICT, OAK HARBOR, WASHINGTON

ORB Architects designed this aquatic facility in 1981, but the community had outgrown it and needed to double its size in order to meet the present needs. They felt that adding leisure components and expanding changing areas would allow the facility to serve a broader audience, from children to seniors, while creating additional revenue. We completed a feasibility study, conceptual design, and pro forma analysis to provide the decision-making information they needed to move forward with plans. The project was completed on time and within the budget.

KEY PROJECT TASKS:

  • Collected and analyzed existing information
  • Prepared a preliminary site analysis
  • Made recommendations regarding additional studies, including soils report and site survey
  • Identified program, size, and layout
  • Prepared concept design drawings to brief the general public
  • Provided community outreach assistance, including identifying key stakeholders and participating in public meeting
  • Finalized conceptual design
  • Compiled pertinent operating data from our exclusive NW aquatic facility study
  • Prepared area of magnitude operating proforma including estimated attendance, estimated operating cost, and estimated average attendance fee required to break even
  • Prepared area of magnitude development cost for proposed facility
